Cosmetic Dental Spa

5.jpg

Our next category is the cosmetic dental spa. This type may or may not include the atmospheric dental spa services, but it deals more with cosmetic upgrades or changes like the following:

  • full mouth reconstruction;
  • porcelain veneers, inlays, onlays, and crowns;
  • tooth replacement therapy;
  • implants, and bridges;
  • dental hygiene;
  • root canal therapy;
  • invisible braces installation;
  • and teeth whitening.

The last service, teeth whitening, seems to be the most sought after from the list. This process involves processing bleach to remove stains, in tandem with special light to activate the bleaching solution in the teeth. As much as the dentists would like to whiten all the smiles in the world, there is a limit depending on how dark one’s teeth really are. According to one of them, “After a certain point, all the pigments that are going to break down have been broken down.” So don’t be disappointed when you don’t get that shiny white teeth after the procedure, the dentists have done all they can.

Not All Dentists are Convinced

7.jpg

Eventhough dental spa seems to be a good thing for the dentistry occupation, some are apprehensive in joining the bandwagon.

According to some dentists, they were worried that the profession might be in jeopardy because these dental spas may be looking for cheap ways to attract new patients. Another cause for concern are the insurance reimbursements as these “extra” services are not covered.

Almost all agree though that the spa can come to the dentist but the dentist will never go to a spa. First, it would be expensive for a dentist to become a resident in a spa as he will require specialized equipment to do the job properly. Another reason would be that there would be liability issues.

Holistic Dental Spa

6.jpg

Before we start with the last dental spa category, let’s do a bit of a recap on the previous two: the atmospheric type deals more with putting you in the mood by manipulating the environment around you. The cosmetic type deals more with how to make your teeth look better.

The last dental spa category is the holistic one. This may or may not include one or a combination of the previous categories. It is considered to be the top of the pyramid when it comes to dental spa. The dentists in this category not only helps you in cleaning your teeth or taking out a damaged one, but they also check you for possible symptoms for other diseases. It may or may not be related to the mouth. Examples are: gum disease as a marker for heart disease, periodental disease a symptom for diabetes, etc.

The dentists cannot heal or alleviate the disease but at least they can give you clues and suggests patients to get appropriate help.

Sealants

18.jpg

This is used to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits which accumulate plaque, not because the person doesn’t brush, but because they’re too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. These will develop cavities over time, and you don’t want that.

Common teeth improvements

Improvements of the teeth after a restorative procedure will usually include optimal tooth color, which usually comes in the color silver, but there’s always the alternative of availing it in a natural hue. A tooth colored composite on the other hand, will greatly assist chronic smokers and coffer drinkers as this procedure will bleach their teeth back to its pearly white forms. If a patient would want to avail of an implant, the dentist will take into consideration the color of the molars to make a perfect match. Before anyone could request a smile makeover in the form of cosmetic dentistry, it is recommended that he or she undergoes comprehensive teeth evaluation.
Teeth evaluation would include a comprehensive examination with regards to the status of the teeth. The dentist would check the state, the color, the damage if any, as well as misalignments so that room for error would be none to minimal.

The Atmospheric Dental Spa

4.jpg

Dental spas vary depending on what type of service they offer. According to Luxary SpaFinder, they have 3 categories of Dental spa: atmospheric, cosmetic, holistic. We’ll tackle them one by one.

The atmospheric dental spa creates an environment that exudes relaxation that reduces a patient’s anxiety. One of the more basic ways of doing this is playing soothing music in the background, having paraffin hand treatment, a facial, a foot massage, or lighting up an aromatherapy candle around the dentist chair.

This is what is usually expected when one hears about a dental spa. However we will be tackling another kind in the next post: the cosmetic dental spa.

Dental Spas – A cure for dental fear?

Are you afraid of going to your dentist?

From the wisdom of Wikipedia:

Dental fear refers to the fear of dentistry and of receiving dental care. A pathological form of this fear (specific phobia) is variously called dental phobia, odontophobia, dentophobia, dentist phobia, or dental anxiety. It is estimated that as many as 75% of US adults experiences some degree of dental fear, from mild to severe. Approximately 5 to 10 percent of U.S. adults are considered to experience dental phobia; they are so fearful of receiving dental treatment that they avoid dental care at all costs.

The solution, of course, is a Dental Spa. Dental spas are different from the traditional clinics in the sense that it does not have the clinical feel of a regular dentist’s clinic, so you really don’t feel like you’re going to the dentist. The ambiance and the facilities resemble that of traditional spas, except that your teeth are the ones that are going to get pampered here. Dental spas are designed primarily to make the patient/s and visitors as comfortable and as pampered as possible during the dental care process – be it a simple teeth cleaning procedure to a root canal, or even a dental implant operation. So who says a trip to the dentist always has to be a terrible experience?

Sonic Toothbrushes and teeth cleaning

sonicbrushSonic toothbrushes have been around for quite sometime yet not many use them for their inherent high cost. They are still basically motorized power toothbrushes that have emitters that release sonic sound waves that dislodges plaque and bacteria from teeth.
Ever wonder how fast food diners clean their utensils so fast, they might have a sonic dishwasher which is a tub that has water and sonic sound emitters built into them using sound to clean the plates and glasses. The sonic energy, literally shakes the contaminants loose from teeth as you brush leaving a cleaner set of teeth. Consider them in your next purchase of your next motorized toothbrush so you get more than just brushing leaving you smiling all day long.

No Needle Anesthesia ?!!!?

Called electronic anesthesia, it is the latest in the long line of breakthroughs which answers the prayers of those who suffer from dental phobias. Blamed for many a broken teeth and unsightly smiles, dental phobias are associated with not only the experience but also the smells and even the thought of having a dental procedure done. Dental spas, being all the rave nowadays, takes away the feeling of going to a dentist’s office, replacing it with a sense of peace with ambient music and many other amenities that does indeed take away the feel of a dental visit.
Using electronic anesthesia, it takes away the pain of traditional needle anesthesia and the feeling of dread as the dentist pushes the needle into your gums, sometimes several times over depending on the need. It uses electrodes that are placed beneath the area where the procedure is to be done and uses electric pulses that numbs the nerves making for a pain free visit to the dentist.
